Hard hats, hearing protection and hi-vis workwear

Being seen, protecting the head and controlling noise exposure are separate safety needs. Each needs equipment chosen for the actual job.

Worksite safety

Choose the appropriate helmet

Assess falling or moving objects and other head hazards, including electrical exposure where applicable. Helmets have different protective capabilities. Inspect the shell and suspension, and follow the manufacturer’s replacement guidance after impacts or damage.

Noise protection needs an assessment

Reduce noise at source where possible. Select earplugs or earmuffs based on assessed exposure, fit and the need to hear communication or warning signals. Correct insertion of earplugs and an effective earmuff seal are essential; advertised attenuation is not a guarantee of protection in use.

Hi-vis is about visibility

Choose visibility clothing for the lighting, traffic and task. Keep reflective areas clean and unobstructed. A reflective vest should not be assumed to provide flame, chemical or other protection unless those properties are documented for that product.

Check the whole combination

Eyewear arms, helmets and other equipment may affect earmuff seals or comfort. Check that the complete combination fits the worker and remains effective together. Include sizes and task requirements in your bulk PPE enquiry.
